I am a firm believer in that there is a solution to every single problem out there. Losing your job is difficult enough; it’s what you do after that will defined you and pave the road to your future. For starters, you have to start worrying about where your income source will come from for the next few weeks. Hopefully, you have some money socked away for a rainy day just like this one. Understand that it’s perfectly normal to feel a sense of grief after the loss of a job. You may have seen this firing or layoff coming for a few months so that adds to the problem. You’ve probably felt the pinch and the stress for the last few weeks or months so what places you in a position where you have to be mentally strong. Take care of yourself physically and do your best to avoid being depressed.

Look for jobs that match your skills and some that come close to what you have to offer. In other words, don’t box yourself in to one specific position because that’s what you were doing before. You’re going to go through a few stages after job loss such as grief, anger, and finally being able to accept what happened and getting on with your life. After a job loss, we as humans sometimes tend to start blaming others for what has happened. Although sometimes this has merit, it’s best to let the past be the past and to continue moving forward with your life.
When you’re ready to move forward it’s time to make a plan. For example, on a piece of paper or notebook pad, you can put down that you are going to contact job search engines and register for free, and start submitting your resume to different companies. You can also write down what your goals and objectives are for the short-term and long-term. The whole point is to get yourself organized so that you can structure your life around making it your job to find work. Whatever you do, stay positive and never let any other company know how dissatisfied you are with your previous company. This will merely paint you in a negative light and nobody will want to hire you.
